Calisthenics are a type of strength training that use your body weight as resistance to perform exercises that build strength, endurance, flexibility, and coordination. Calisthenics can be performed with or without props
like rings, ropes, resistance bands or bars.
Calisthenics can be used to isolate specific muscles like in
Push-ups, Pull-ups, Dips, Sit-ups, Squats, etc.
which can also be done using free weights or machines.
However,
I use Calisthenics in movements which combine
multiple muscle groups, which improves coordination, balance,
requiring more demanding breathing patterns
and stimulate more complex neural pathways;
Concentric, Eccentric and Isometric muscle contractions
are required within a single exercise.
this develops Inter-Muscular Teamwork (I.M.T)
The term "calisthenics" comes from the Greek words kallos, meaning "beauty," and sthenos, meaning "strength".
The ancient Greeks practiced calisthenics as far back as 480 BCE.
